This belt has round Yei or Yeibichai figures, representing spiritual power and connection to the Holy People common in depictions of dancers from the Yeibichai healing ceremony In Navajo culture, Yei (or Diyin Dinéʼé) are Holy People / spiritual beings, not gods in a Western sense, but powerful intermediaries connected to healing, balance and harmony (hózhó),protection, rain and natural forces. The Yeibichai ceremony specifically is a nine-night healing ritual, and the dancers embody these spiritual figures. Many pieces like this were made in the mid-20th century for trade or tourism, so the symbol may be inspired by ceremonial imagery rather than used in a sacred context. Each of the Yei conchos measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter and has been sandcast for this belt.
