Red Stripe Teepee
This piece was crafted by Peter Ray James. He takes canvas, sews it together, stuffs it with fiberfill, paints it adding Native symbolism to it. In this way he is telling a story with each piece in addition to decorating it. To the uneducated in Native history, they are beautiful, but to those who understand the symbolism, they each have a unique story to tell. This piece has several four pointed stars representing the four cardinal directions, layered mountains representing generations ascending to the creator and warriors on horseback with a hear of bison. It is flanked by willow branches to create the teepee. It measures approximately 16 by 8 inches.
