Decoy on Horseback

Decoy on Horseback

This painting was done by Jim Abeita and it has an interesting back story. The Native American on horseback is a decoy, leading others into a trap where he is supported by others. The image didn't start out with that in mind according to the artist, but as he progressed, he kept adding more and more detail. Some of that detail includes Window Rock set on the right side of the horizon, it implied that the soldiers were coming from Fort defiance. So, under the Icon for the Navajo Nation, he painted a group of Navajo people. The image is approximately 17.5 by 23.5.
